Torrential Frogectomy
04:19
|
|||
Warm, humid mountains tops
'sky islands'. Set adrift
among the drier lowlands
a refuge for many rainforest species
that would not otherwise survive
Du toit's torrent frog
once found in mount elgon kenya
ancient amphibian family
diverged during cretaceous
plesiosaurs still swam
pterosaurs still flew
dinosaurs roamed
thundering scowl
slippery rocks
rapid flow gouge
t shape fingertips
special adaptation
clinging to the banks
for 70 million years
logging and agriculture
finally washed them away
holding fast
deluge of rain
sawblades lean
loggers slash
torrents of pain

Carbonized Species
02:16
|

Extraction exploitation
Hammer smashed rock-face
Funneling oil into impermeable heat dome
Squeezing blood money from bones
Liquefying fossilized remains
Soon we return to the pits of sediment
From which we came
carbon capture enslavement
monetary monocultural cultivation
endless futile novelty innovation
a future of cryptographic de-evolution
fantasy profits swell like the bellies of the hungry
real estate bubbles bursting like plague-ridden pustules
towering eruption of supreme bigots
slashing rights decimating legal protections
sweaty hands on the levers of police funding
a shrill chorus they open the spigot
gimme fuel
species carbonized
gimme fire
ravenous extraction
rupturing boils
the fate we desire

Cloud Forest Fruitopsy
03:21
|
|||
a single individual
in the forest of clouds
small life residual
on the drying ground
flower petals wave
over clinging roots
nothing left to save
but unviable fruits
cloud forest isolation
habitat degradation
climate damnation
no path or aversion
to inevitable extinction
leaves still reach the sky
seasons come and go
visiting bees say goodbye
final years spent alone
calmly watching the hillside
we destroy its only home

Extinction Louisville, Colorado
Extinction is not a band that formed or began; it is a continuation in a long trail of smoldering ruin dragging behind the
feet of homo sapiens. We play on instruments made of felled trees, extracted metals and petroleum, and assembled by the impoverished among our species. Everyone is human, everyone is civilization, everyone consumes. We are extinction.
